Services

We offer a full range of services from design and inspiration to land preparation, seedbed tilling, sowing, cutting and management. We can put together inclusive packages, or you can pick and choose the best service to suit you and your meadow.

Design

Our design process is straight to the point. We get to know you and your site first; discuss what you’re looking to achieve and indeed experience from your meadow. From there we head back to the studio and design up shapes, paths, plant selections, colour, and scents and deliver back a suggested plan that we then work through with you to refine.

Land Preparation

Before creating any wildflower meadow, the land needs to be prepared to give the seeds the best chance to thrive. There are a number of ways to approach this and an on site consultation and soil survey are the best ways to work out the best route forward.

Tilling

To create a perfect seedbed we use our Winton Stone Burrier. The machine is similar to a rotovator, but instead of kicking the soil out the back, the top soil is dragged underneath as the blades turn. The result is a finely graded till, even from a cut grass start, perfect to sow into and roll down. We have access to all sizes of machinery from big to small, and alongside our compact tractor, can even work in some very tight locations.

Sowing

We use a number of techniques to sow depending on scale and intricacy. We love nothing better to sow by hand, with a shoulder seed caster, or straight out the sack. This works best for smaller areas. For larger sites and margins, we use towed seeders and drills. We always buy our seed from Emorsgate Seeds, who have an unsurpassed approach to quality, care and advice. www.wildseed.co.uk

Management

A wildflower meadow can be established in one season, but can take up to 10 years to mature. We plan in a number of site visits and can manage your whole site from cutting, harrowing, and additional over seeding, to developing additional planting schemes and diversity. We can also help with any of the above when and where it’s needed. In order for farmers to hit the highest stewardship schemes, we can cut, collect and recycle material, allowing your margins to flourish, not fizzle away.
